Walk 6: within daily life

For this "walk" I decided to do something that I knew wasn't going to be extremely difficult, but would get the most reaction from my family. Growing up I was extremely shy and honestly almost mute, it wasn't until my junior year of high school that I came out of my shell and really started having a personality and voice. I mean, my mom would literally order my food for me at restaurants. I decided to try and go back to that and not speak as much, only if I was asked a question. This was honestly a lot harder than I thought because I realized how much I love to talk to my family, and my sister in law is currently staying with us. Over the day I noticed that my parents felt like something was wrong, my mom kept asking me if I was grumpy or mad, and I kept having to say no and reassure them, but it didn't change anything and so I think like they felt they should just leave me alone. I'm currently engaged, and I think they thought I was fighting with my fiancé, but I was just doing a school project LOL. They started just not speaking to me as much around 1pm, which meant I was basically on my phone all day. It was so boring to not interact with people, especially my parents and it was hard to imagine my life was like this when I was younger. I'm very happy that I learned how to speak and say my opinion, because I believe if I was the same as I was years ago, I wouldn't even have my own ideas, or opinions.

Monday was the day that I completed the walk.

  1. Hi, I also did this for my Walk 6! I really liked reading about your experience, it was honest and relatable. One thing I think could make it even stronger is if you talked a bit more about what helped you come out of your shell back in high school. It could give your story even more emotional depth and help us further understand why you chose to do the opposite for this walk.

  2. It's really interesting to read everyone's experiences doing this walk, it relies on your surroundings and how they react from you! But I think this walk was a nice reflection for you that helped you look back at your past and compared it to how your life is now.

  3. This reflection connects with themes of identity and communication in other walks. It shows how finding your voice transforms relationships and self expression, revealing how silence can create distance even among those closest to us.

  4. This is such a good experiment to reflect on the way you have grown and changed. It connects your personal experience with your mentality on the way you view the world. I also think adding in your screen time was super interesting, it shows how we rely on our phones when we are not interacting with other people.
