Writing 1

 Writing 1: Ephemeral/Site

In the reading Wanderlust, it states the facts and history that goes with walking. We see walking as a normal everyday thing that is just a part of our lives. This reading divulges into the “history” of walking, which is stated to be an amateur history. It seems like history doesn’t have much to say, but as we all know, walking is much more than it seems. It is a privilege to most and impossible for others. I think what the reading means is that it’s just something thin, and nothing crazy or rich to expand about. From the readings and what I’ve gathered from living everyday life, is that it's such a privilege to be able to walk. We are able to get up and just move from place to place, we have an everyday path to the bathroom, to go to our cars, to go to work. We just take advantage of it everyday. In the reference of Walking the Line, it talked about walking as a creative exercise, which isn’t something I think of. To me walking is either a normal everyday part of life, or can be a chore when doing it as a physical exercise. These readings and the movie gets you to think about the things in a different light. Just with something so simple as being able to walk, I can’t help but think about all the different sorts of things that we take for granted. Being able to sit back and look at things we do on a daily basis, and that other people may never even have the chance to do, should be a thing that needs to be shown gratitude. I believe that gratitude is the key to life in a ton of aspects. In Goldworthy’s projects, we see time affect where you are placed throughout the day, and that affects how you move throughout life. It also makes you think about how you are placed in certain scenarios, but you can also choose where you go. Thinking about how we have free will and can do anything we want, and be anywhere we want to be, but then have all these different outside influences affecting the way we live our lives. I think being able to walk and use it in a creative sense, is another way to gain control, and choose to do the things that we want, when we may not feel like we are in control.
